About UPSC Civil Service Examination Schedule and Subject list :

Sr.No. Details
1 UPSC advertises normally in the month of November / December in Employment News
2 Preliminary Examination of objective type is held every year in MAY.
3 Preliminary examination result - JULY / AUGUST.
4 Mains Examination Descriptive type test held in - OCTOBER / NOVEMBER.
5 Mains Examination result in MARCH
6 Interview (viva - voce ) APRIL-MAY at New Delhi.
7 Final Result – MAY

The Examination consists of two papers.

Note :

i Both the question papers are of objective type (multiple choice questions).
ii The Course content of the syllabi for the optional subjects are of the degree level.
iii Medium English and Hindi
The written Examination consists of the following papers.

Paper II: English 300 marks
(The marks obtained in these two papers are not considered for the written score.)
Paper III: Essay 200 x 1 = 200 marks
Paper IV and V : General Studies 300 x 2 = 600 marks
Paper VI, VII : Optional Subjects (1) 300 x 2 = 600 marks
Paper VIII and IX Optional Subjects (2) 300 x 2 = 600 marks

Total Marks 2000 marks
The Candidates can also appear in all papers of main through Gujarati Medium except the compulsory English Paper.

2 Commerce & Accountancy - Management 5 Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science - Agriculture
3 Anthropology - Sociology 6 Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science - Medical Science
7. Of the Engineering Subjects viz. Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering & Mechanical Engineering - not more than one subject.

Total - Main Examination - 2000 Marks + 300 Marks Interview = 2300 Marks
