About UPSC Civil Service Examination Schedule and Subject list :

Civil Services Examination Training Programme 2010-11

1UPSC Advertise normally in the month of November / December in EMPLOYMENT NEWS
2Preliminary Examination of objective type held every year in MAY.
3Preliminary examination result - JULY / AUGUST.
4Mains Examination Descriptive type test held in - OCTOBER / NOVEMBER.
5Mains Examination result - MARCH
6Oral Interview (viva - voce ) APRIL-MAY at New Delhi.
7Final Result – MAY

The Examination consists of two papers.
Paper I:General Studies 150 Marks
Paper II:One Subject to be selected from the list of optional Subject set out below.300 Marks

Total450 Marks

iBoth the question papers are of objective type (multiple choice questions).
iiThe Course content of the syllabi for the optional subjects are of the degree level.

The written Examination consists of the following papers.
Paper I:One of the recognize Indian Language
( Gujarati/ Marathi etc.)
300 marks
Paper II:English300 marks
((The marks obtained in these two papers are not considered for the written score.))
Paper III:Essay200 x 1 = 200 marks
Paper IV and V :General Studies300 x 2 = 600 marks
Paper VI, VII :Optional Subjects (1)300 x 2 = 600 marks
Paper VIII and IXOptional Subjects (2)300 x 2 = 600 marks

Total Marks2000 marks
The Candidates can also appear in all papers of main through Gujarati Medium except compulsory English Paper.

(a)Political Science & International Relations - Public Administration.
(b)Commerce & Accountancy - Management
(c)Anthropology - Sociology
(d)Mathematics - Statistics
(e)Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science - Agriculture
(f)Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science - Medical Science
(g)Of the Engineering Subjects viz. Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering & Mechanical Engineering - not more than one subject.

Oral Interview : 300 Marks

Total - Main Examination - 2000 Marks + 300 Marks Oral Interview = 2300 Marks
