Introduction

Gujarat Center for Good Governance (GCGG) has been principally set-up vide GAD GR.No. TLM-102005-1247-ARTD-3 dated 4th March, 2006 initially as an autonomous unit of Sardar Patel Institute of Public Administration (SPIPA) by Government of Gujarat. The Center is engaged in research, evaluation, documentation and specialised training.

Functions of Gujarat Center for Good Governance

  • To study Good Governance practices and projects of different states and carry out its documentation.
  • To develop a network of different organizations and people working in the field of Good Governance in such a way that they are mutually benefited.
  • To organize Seminars, Conferences, Workshops and Trainings on Good Governance.
  • To study different best practices in Good Governance and then prepare and implement an award scheme for those working towards the actualization of Good Governance.
  • To carry out wide publicity and broadcasting of Good Governance throughout the state.

  • Training component of UNDP-Planning Commission of India Project "Capacity Building for Human Development" aimed at training about 2600 Officers at State, District and Taluka level on a 2 day module and more than 18,000 village level officials on a one day satcom training program.
  • Monitoring of the project "Capacity Building for Poverty Reduction through Innovations" sponsored by DfID under the General Administrative Department, Government of India :

  • Center for Good Governance (CGG) has carried out MoU with Centre for Innovations in Public Systems (CIPS) for conducting training programs on innovative practices in various sectors under which SPIPA conducts training programmes for the officers of health, urban governance, e-governance and education.
  • The state Government has notified SPIPA as the Nodal Institution in Gujarat to conduct research and impart training on the subjects relevant to the state on International Trade, World Trade Organization (WTO) and Free Trade Agreements (FTA) for which SPIPA conducts seminars on varied subjects for sensitizing the officers in the field of WTO and FTA.
  • Published a Coffee Table Book on 'Swarnim Swantah Sukhaya Project' in English as well as Gujarati language that showcases Best Practices implimented in Gujarat so as to allow its replication elsewhere.
